TMJ Therapy

Few dentists in the Atlanta area are trained and experienced to treat Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD), a group of disorders that is often defined by poor range of motion and pain in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Our Peachtree City dental office is home to several highly qualified dentists who have special training in the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ Disorders.

We employ the latest techniques and treatments to find conservative options that alleviate painful symptoms, such as frequent headaches, and restore lasting balance to the occlusal system- and a comfortable and functional bite.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF TMJ

The signs of TMJ Disorder are unique to the individual, making it a challenge for an untrained clinician to reach a diagnosis. Some of the more common signs or symptoms include:

  • Popping or clicking in the jaw
  • Locked jaw, difficulty opening the mouth
  • Pain when chewing, eating or opening wide
  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Soreness or tiredness in the face or jaw

TMJ THERAPY

Just as the symptoms of TMD are unique to the individual, so is the therapy. Instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach, our dentists take time to carefully listen to the individual, evaluate their condition, and create a personalized treatment plan. We may use one or several therapies to reach the best possible solution. The first line of therapy is usually an evaluation of the individual’s lifestyle. In some cases, symptoms can be controlled by making changes to daily habits or incorporating stress management technique into their daily routine.

Other times, professional intervention is needed. Our dentists may use a mouth guard or a splint to bring the jaw joints into proper alignment. We may also perform bite correction procedures to change that alignment or fit of teeth. This could include removing or adding tooth structure through cosmetic bonding, porcelain veneers or dental crowns. We also offer Invisalign for discreetly straightening crooked teeth.

Reviews & Testimonials

My appointment was August 4th, 2022. Before I went in, I said a prayer as I had not been to the dentist in many, many years because after a very bad experience, I have a fear of the dentist. When I walked in, I was greeted by the receptionist and then escorted to the back by Ms. Michelle. On the way to the back, Ms. Michelle and I talked, and she made me feel really comfortable. Before she did any treatments, I told her that the online reviews I had read, were absolutely true because I felt really comfortable and at ease. She took an x-ray and then Dr. Harrah came in. He discussed everything that was going on with my mouth. All the questions I had, which were a lot he answered, and then made sure I didn’t have any others. He was through and patient. He didn’t make me feel rushed or like a burden for asking questions. It was a great experience. If you haven’t been to the dentist in the while or have a fear of the dentist, PLEASE go to Vassey Dental Partners, as you will not be disappointed. Also, best of luck to Sophie. Sandra

Newly moved to PTC. Had a very positive first meet and greet with Dr Russel Harrah and his assistant Michelle. Thorough and complete review of my medical history and current oral condition giving concise explanations of noted concerns and potential treatment options. Listened to my thoughts and plotted a path forward to meet all needs. Very professional and friendly. Kudos to the Vassey team. Looking forward to their care.

My wife and I recently had our first visits to this wonderful practice. As a retired dentist of 37 years, I can say that this practice is state of the art with techniques, sterilization, and methods. I would add that in all of my years, I have never seen a practice with as many long-term employees who are genuinely happy to see patients. Their courtesy and professionalism are second to none. Having such a staff is a hallmark of a patient centered practice that treats its employees well. Peachtree City is fortunate to have such a wonderful place for dental care.

Vassey dental is by far the best dental practice I have ever used. Dr. Konwick is the most caring and amazing person and that doesn’t even begin to mention her amazing skills as a dentist. Her work is impeccable. I was a very tough case, with years of damage to repair, and I can’t believe how great it looks. I don’t know if they do awards for dentist, but if they do, I officially nominate her and her team!! 5 stars isn’t enough!!!

Marla Bassette

I had a great experience at Vassey dental. I really felt cared for and listened to by Dr. Lane and all the staff. All my concerns were addressed. They are truly a cut above.

Jen Myers

I personally work in the dental field at another office but never have time during work for my dental needs since we are caring for our patients. With that said, a few years ago I became a patient with Vassey Dental. Every experience I’ve had there has been positive. It’s clean, modern and over all just a good vibe. Dr Lane is caring and practices conservative dentistry; which is greatly appreciated! I went today for a scheduled appt for 3 fillings… turns out they ended up just needing sealants (that is not only more cost effective but also less natural tooth removed!WIN!WIN!) He’s a top notch dentist and his assistant Chelsea is AWESOME! I love their work chemistry and their banter is HILARIOUS! Keep up the great work!!!!

Joseph Scimeca

Where can I start.. This was the best dental visit I've had since covid and what impressed me most was the fact that I wasn't uncomfortable with the fact that hadn't been to the dentist office and I felt at ease. Morgan was absolutely The best and Dr Fowkles wasn't so bad either.. just kidding it was my first visit at this office and I am very thankful that my Dr was very knowledgeable and will guide me to better teeth! Also it was my hubby first time there as well and he was very grateful for Chelsea and Dr. Lane! He said they made him very comfortable. Highly Recommend!

Jodie Harmon

I love this place!! I have been going to Vassey for about 7 years. All the staff are exceptional, and super easy to book appointments with little notice when I can only come certain days. Ashley my hygienist is always so positive and does a great job, highlighting the areas that I have done well cleaning and what I need to improve. I am so happy to come into the office semi-annually!

Kim Fourman

This was the first dentist that we’ve been to where we felt like the overall experience was a positive one. They are very professional and caring, we’re very happy to have found them!

Jeff Schott

Every facet of this practice is excellent. Front and back office, schedulers, dentists, assistants, and hygienists. Just the best.

FAQ

What is TMJ treatment?

TMJ or Temporomandibular Disorders result in pain when moving the jaw. This can also include popping or clicking sounds, locking of the jaw, headaches, or chronic pain in the face, neck, and jaw areas.

Depending on the symptoms of TMJ, our dentist will develop a customized therapy plan. Often a combination of treatments, including lifestyle changes, stress management, behavior changes, and the addition of mouthguards, splints, or bite correction options, are used to align the teeth and bring the jaw into the correct position to take the stress off the joint. Botox is effective at reducing migraines, headaches, and face pain associated with the condition.

How much does TMJ treatment cost?

There are several different treatment options for TMJ. Treatments start with an evaluation to determine if lifestyle changes, mouth guards, splints, bite correction procedures, or a combination of therapies are the best options. The individual cost of the therapy will vary based on the personalized approach and treatment methods.

Does insurance cover TMJ treatment?

TMJ treatment coverage depends on the specific insurance provider and the policy. It also depends on the specific condition that causes the pain. For example, medical insurance may cover TMJ treatment if there is an underlying issue such as arthritis or fibromyalgia.

Dental insurance may cover TMJ treatments if the cause is dental in nature, which is typically a result of bruxism or grinding and clenching of the teeth. Talking to your dentist and doctor will help determine which type of claim is best.
