What is 3D Dental Imaging?

3D dental imaging provides a more accurate picture of a patient’s oral health than traditional x-rays. Vassey Dental Partners strives to provide the latest advancements to our patients, so we proudly offer 3D dental imaging in our office. 3D dental imaging will likely replace traditional x-rays altogether due to improved results and greater patient comfort.

Getting to Know 3D Dental Imaging

Using a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) machine, our dental team can capture images of your teeth and jaw. The results will appear in 3D, just like your actual teeth. 3D dental imaging is revolutionizing dental care because dentists can more easily evaluate teeth, as well as plan for treatment and restorations. Your dentist will be able to see the actual height, width, and depth of each tooth within your smile. Having this visual picture helps ensure oral health, plan restorative measures, and assess alignment. From one 3D dental scan, your dentist will have a clear visualization of your teeth, nerves, and muscles. Signs of disease, infection, and damage will be obvious as well.

3D dental imaging is primarily utilized for preparing for the following procedures: dental implants, root canal therapy, sleep apnea treatment, TMJ treatment, extractions, oral surgery, and orthodontic treatment.

What to Expect

The patient places their head on the chin rest and the CBCT machine will rotate around to capture images of the teeth, jaw, and skull. The entire process is complete in seconds and the machine will provide 100-600 images. The radiation exposure from 3D dental imaging is less than from traditional x-rays.

3D dental scans provide better images while keeping patients more comfortable. This technology is especially life-changing for patients with dental anxiety or sensitive gag reflexes. No part of the machine has to be placed in the patient’s mouth. This process is also easier to keep sanitary.

How Much Does a 3D Dental Scan Cost?

The cost will vary based on each patient’s insurance coverage. Before completing the 3D scans, our staff can provide a clear estimate after checking your coverage.

Whether you have an upcoming dental procedure, or your teeth are being checked for routine wellness, 3D dental imaging will provide invaluable information to your dentist. At Vassey Dental Partners, we offer this technology to provide the best care for our patients. Schedule your visit to Vassey Dental Partners today!
