Root canal therapy is a common treatment used to help save a natural tooth that might otherwise need to be removed. While Vassey Dental Partners does not perform root canal procedures in-house, we work closely with trusted specialists in our community to ensure you receive the care you need.
The root canal is the natural cavity located at the center of a tooth. Soft tissue (pulp) and the tooth’s nerve are inside the root canal. If this area becomes damaged, debris or bacteria can enter, resulting in an infection, or in more severe cases, an abscess. An abscessed tooth is a severe condition where the tooth is full of pus with the infection expanding beyond the root of the tooth. This condition must be treated promptly to prevent the infection from migrating to other parts of the body. If you have an abscessed tooth, we offer emergency root canal dentistry to solve the issue.
Although we do not perform root canal therapy at our Peachtree City office, our team will evaluate your dental needs and guide you through the next steps. If treatment is necessary, we will take initial x-rays to assess the condition of your tooth and refer you to a local endodontist—a dental specialist who performs root canals.
The experts we refer to are highly experienced and dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care, so you can feel confident and comfortable throughout the treatment process.
Root canal therapy may require more than one visit. Root canal therapy is offered with the aid of sedation dentistry, which can calm and relax the patient. Following the application of any sedation, the dentist creates an access hole into the tooth. Then, any tissue that is infected plus the damaged nerve and other debris are removed from the tooth. The root canal is then cleaned and polished thoroughly.
To protect the tooth between appointments, it may be sealed temporarily. In the final stage, a biocompatible material called gutta-percha is used to fill the canal. A filling is placed to seal the access point, or a crown may be placed to restore strength and function.
Root canal dentistry has a bad reputation for being a painful procedure. The procedure itself is often no more painful than having a dental filling. The pain and discomfort come from the actual infection itself. Patients will experience significant relief after undergoing root canal therapy. Root canals have a success rate of 95% and allow people to preserve their natural teeth.
If you’re experiencing tooth pain or suspect you may need a root canal, call our Peachtree City office today at 770.629.9524. We’ll assess your needs and refer you to a skilled local specialist for prompt and professional care.
Step 1
Please contact our team if you would like to set up your initial appointment. Our New Patient Coordinator will guide you through what to expect for your first visit to include a full set of X-rays, a gum assessment, and a comprehensive exam with one of our doctors. She will speak with you about your concerns and match you with the best provider to accommodate your needs and ensure you have the best dental experience.
Step 2
Determine a plan that works for you - Whether it is preventative care or cosmetic, our team will help you lay out the best path for you. After the initial exam, our doctors will walk you through your x-rays and intra-oral photos of your teeth, so that you can understand the current state of your oral health. In conjunction with your primary concern, we will walk through a few different treatment options, so that we can restore you to the best oral health.
Step 3
Take Action. During your first treatment at Vassey Dental Partners, you will be prepared from start to finish. We take the time to answer any treatment questions, utilize a wealth of resources to make you comfortable in the chair, and prepare you for the estimated out of pocket costs prior to treatment. If you have dental anxiety, we will go over several options that will help you have the most comfortable dental experience as possible. Options include nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and IV sedation.
Step 4
Follow Up & Long Term Care. Our goal is to take care of any necessary treatment and then to have you on scheduled recall visits to have your teeth cleaned. At this visit, we will monitor your periodontal health, complete periodic exams and annual xrays, so that we can diagnose conservative treatment.
Fantastic first time visit. Friendly, Professional and caring for details. Never had a dentist ever do work up on jawline, gums, bone, and explain it to me in a way I could understand. The place is easy to find and it's very big and well staffed.

Dr Michelle Konwick is the best! She makes it her priority to ensure that you never feel nervous about the dentist. She goes far above and beyond to make sure that any tooth issue is addressed and toothaches that you go into her office with, stay with her at her office. She is so pleasant and positive with her patients and her staff. All of the dentists are great at Vassey and they always followed up with you the evening of your visit to check on you. All the staff at Vassey are wonderful.
I had an amazing experience at Vassey Dental Partners, from the moment I walked in the staff were welcoming and very professional. Dr. Morgan Engelbrech and her amazing assistant Michelle were very thorough, explained everything clearly, and made me feel at ease. The office is clean and comfortable. Impressed by the attention to detail and the care taken to ensure my comfort throughout the appointment. Highly recommend.
Fabulous practice! I have to add, my son chipped his tooth, he’s still at a fabulous pediatric dentist whom we love. They, however, don’t see patients for chips on Fridays. Even though my son isn’t a current patient, my husband and I are patients, they were able to squeeze him in the next day so he didn’t have to deal with it all weekend. Amazing customer service! They genuinely care about their patients and their families!
